Board Meetings

The Imperial Unified School District Board of Education meets generally the first Thursday of the month. The Board begins their open (public) session at 5:00 p.m., in the Board Room, adjacent to the District Office located at 219 N. “E: Street, Imperial, California. The Board’s closed session follows the regular meeting. Special meetings may be called to discuss a limited topic.
 
An audio tape recording will be made of each meeting by the recorder.

Closed Session Meetings – The Governing Board considers confidential items such as student matters, personnel actions, and litigation in closed sessions held after the regular open session meeting.

Board Meetings are conducted in English. Translation services may be requested by calling the District Office at (760) 355-3200 at least 48 hours before the Board Meeting.

Addressing the Board

Addressing the Board

During the Public Comment portion of the meeting, the Board President will allow members of the Audience to address the Board when in compliance with the following regulations:
  • Individuals wishing to speak should complete the Appearance Form and present it to the Board President prior to or when announced under the public comment portion of the board agenda.
  • Each presentation will be limited to three minutes.
  • Absent the use of simultaneous translation services, members of the public who utilize a translator to address the Board shall receive at least twice the allotted time to ensure that non-English speakers receive the same opportunity to directly address the Board.
  • Delegations of more than five persons presenting or commenting on the same subject shall also complete the attached appearance form and appoint one spokesperson to present their views before the Board and will be limited to ten minutes.
  • The speaker should rise, identify himself/herself by name and address, and, if he/she represents an organization, identify the group.  Remarks should be addressed to the Board as a whole.
  • Complaints and/or discussion about individual school employees will not be heard by the Board in open meetings, as this is considered personnel action and subject to closed session.  Charges or complaints about specific personnel shall be presented in writing to the school district administration and signed by the individual filing the complaint.  The Board respectfully requests that individuals follow Board policy if they have a complaint about any matter.  Copies of the appropriate complaint procedure may be obtained from the administrative office.
  • Action may be taken only on those items listed on the agenda. The Board is pleased to have members of the public visit all meetings and become better informed about school affairs.  Individuals wishing to speak to the Board should become familiar with the appropriate procedures.  
  • The Board is interested in your constructive comments and has provided this opportunity for improved communications with patrons attending the meetings.
